On February 23, Amazon announced plans to invest $12 billion in northwest Louisiana to build state-of-the-art data center campuses that will support cloud computing technologies. The development represents a coordinated, multi-site investment across Caddo and Bossier Parishes, designed to support regional economic activity.
This planned investment is expected to create 540 full-time jobs at the Amazon data centers, plus support 1,710 additional full-time equivalent positions in the community overall
Amazon is partnering with STACK Infrastructure, the developer and owner of the campuses, to lead the construction and development of the data center facilities. STACK anticipates this project will support up to 1,500 construction jobs, creating significant opportunities for local contractors, skilled trades and suppliers throughout the region.

Data centers serve as the foundation for virtually everything that happens online, from sending emails to placing online orders, online banking, health records and so much more, making the internet as we know it possible. Beyond providing essential connectivity, data centers also contribute significantly to local communities through job creation, economic growth, and substantial tax revenue that help fund schools and social services.

A typical data center will need people in a series of different job classifications both during the construction phase and actual operation, including plumbers, pipe fitters, electricians, project engineers, fiber splicers, fiber techs, directional drill operators, line workers, engineer technicians, control technicians, data center technicians, and operations technicians, among others.
The project will need to hire people with and without college degrees.
Once operational, it’s expected that Amazon will significantly increase the overall tax base. However, specific tax rate decisions are made by the local jurisdictions based on budgetary needs and priorities.
Amazon works closely with utilities and grid operators to plan and invest in power grid infrastructure development and improvements, like new substations that extend beyond our immediate requirements and help to modernize and strengthen the broader electricity grid that serves all users.
We work hard to ensure our data centers operate as quietly as possible and do not negatively impact our neighbors. In addition to meeting all local noise regulations, we strive to design our facilities to federal guidance for the health and welfare of surrounding communities, which often are lower than the regulatory standards. We implement several noise mitigation measures including:
- Sound-dampening building materials and insulation
- Strategic placement of cooling equipment
- Visual screening where needed
- Generators utilize acoustical enclosures and mufflers
Throughout design and construction, we partner with acoustic engineers to keep noise levels low and ensure the facility fits comfortably within the surrounding community.
Our data centers are built for long-term operation and are designed to serve customers for many years. We continuously invest in maintaining, upgrading, and modernizing our facilities to meet evolving customer needs and technological advances.

Amazon is partnering with STACK Infrastructure as the project developer, with STACK leading development and construction of the data center facilities. STACK anticipates this project will support up to 1,500 construction jobs, creating significant opportunities for local contractors, skilled trades, and suppliers throughout the region.
Amazon is launching the Amazon Northwest Louisiana Community Fund, committing $250,000 for grants up to $10,000 for community projects across Caddo and Bossier Parishes, and the greater Shreveport area focusing on STEM education, sustainability, digital skills, culture, military veterans support, health, and well-being.
- Expands Amazon’s presence in Louisiana, where Amazon has invested more than $4.7 billion since 2010, employing 7,500 people and supporting an additional 11,500 indirect jobs.
- In the Shreveport area, Amazon opened an advanced robotics fulfillment center in 2024 employing over 2,000 people and a new delivery station in 2025 that is supporting fast delivery to local customers. In total, Amazon’s Louisiana footprint includes:
- Solar energy investments generating up to 200 MW—equivalent to powering 44,000 Louisiana homes
- 4 Fulfillment and sortation centers
- 7 Delivery stations
- 7 Whole Foods Market locations
- Amazon’s data centers will draw water from local municipal water systems that will have substantial excess capacity available for new customers.
- Two separate water systems will serve these sites. One system has at least 8.7 billion gallons of capacity available annually. Amazon is investing up to $400 million in public water infrastructure improvements to support these sites and enhance system efficiency and strengthen resilience. Part of this investment is expected to increase one utility’s capacity by over 50%, providing more than 1 billion gallons of new capacity annually to meet both our needs and the needs of the community.
- This project anticipates using 114 million gallons annually for current development plans, which represents less than 2% of the combined available annual utility capacity and is equivalent to the annual water use of approximately 1,052 households. This project is designed to support reliable water service for all residents and businesses in both communities for decades to come.
- Your water bill should not be affected because all necessary water and wastewater infrastructure improvements for this project will be funded by Amazon, not by ratepayers. Project funding will also cover capital improvements beyond the data center’s requirements, offsetting costs that would otherwise be borne by the community.
- Water rates are set by local authorities. Any water utilized by Amazon’s data center project will be charged at the standard rates and will generate additional revenue for the water and sewer systems without requiring any new investment from the local community.
- Amazon uses the World Resources Institute’s Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas, a widely trusted tool for water risk assessment, to evaluate water availability and stress levels. In the WRI Aqueduct water risk framework, low water stress is defined as an area where the ratio of total annual water withdrawals (domestic, industrial, irrigation, and livestock) to available renewable surface and groundwater supplies is less than 10%. This category represents the lowest risk level in the framework’s classification, and these data centers fall into this low-stress category.
- Beyond desktop analysis, we engage directly with water utilities and key community stakeholders to ensure that we can use water for cooling without negatively impacting northwest Louisiana. This includes verifying available capacity, understanding long-term community water needs, and confirming that our operations will not compete with residential or agricultural users.
For each campus of data centers, our annual water use is expected to be 57 million gallons per year. This is less than the annual use of 526 single-family households. Based on census data, there are approximately 73,114 households in the City of Shreveport, so our cooling water use, when fully developed, will be equivalent to water used by less than 2% of total households.

Building on our commitment to being good neighbors, we’re launching the Amazon Northwest Louisiana Community Fund with a $250,000 commitment. Managed by the nonprofit ChangeX, the program will provide grants up to $10,000 for community projects across Caddo and Bossier Parishes, and the greater Shreveport area focusing on STEM education, sustainability and environment, health, wellbeing, military veterans support and local needs.
