Red River Parish Nurtures a New Economy

Named for the river that runs through Red River Parish, the economy of this parish until recently relied primary on agriculture, timber and forestry.  However, the discovery of the Haynesville Shale in northwest Louisiana has injected millions into the local economy.  Energy companies are setting up shop and drilling in Red River Parish.

ADA-ES and Energy Capital Partners built a new carbon manufacturing plant in Red River Parish. The first production line of this facility is capable of producing 125 to 175 million pounds of activated carbon (AC) per year and came online in June 2010. In addition, the air permit for the facility allows for a second production line, which, if constructed, would be capable of producing up to an additional 175 million pounds of AC per year. The project should create 50 new jobs with salaries between $50,000 and $65,000 a year and bring an estimated $350 million in capital investments to Red River, North Louisiana and the state.

Located in northwest Louisiana, Red River Parish covers 402 sq. miles and is divided by the Red River, defining two distinct sections: the rich river bottomlands on the west and the pine & oak uplands on the east.  With convenient access to Interstate-49 and the Red River, the parish supports a population of 9,091 residents  and a civilian labor force of 3,704 who earns an average household income of $36,609.
