As the parish seat of Union Parish, Farmerville survived what some called an "economic tsunami."

In 2009 the parish's largest employer, Pilgrim's Pride, closed its poultry processing facility, displacing more than a thousand employees and threatening the livelihoods of countless area growers.

However, state and local leaders rallied together to recruit Foster Farms to reopen the Farmerville facility and to create 1,100 jobs.
