North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP), an Accredited Economic Development Organization, provides professional economic development services to an 11-parish region of North Louisiana, including lead generation and prospect management. The Director of Existing Industry Outreach will work with all NLEP departments to execute the Marketing/Attraction, Business Retention and Expansion and Workforce strategies of NLEP.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure NLEP achieves its economic development goals by developing and implementing a regional system for business retention and expansion, including:
    • Using approved technologies (e.g. Salesforce), work with Business Development team to develop and maintain a regional database of target businesses for use in setting business visitation goals and capturing business intelligence;
    • Work with Louisiana Economic Development and other economic development partners to develop organized system for conducting existing business visits;
    • Working with NLEP team and possibly other economic development partners, promptly develop response to needs of companies visited;
    • Manage expansion/retention projects;
    • Identify regional trends from visits and report to NLEP team and stakeholders;
    • Develop relationships with headquarters of local companies if outside the region and work with Business Development team to develop goals around targeted headquarters visitation;
    • Leverage existing business relationships to identify new business targets from their suppliers and customers and share with Business Development team;
    • Working with Business Development team, develop an “after care” plan for companies new to the area after project announcement;
    • Maintain Top Employers lists for target sectors;
    • Manage NLEP-sponsored events for existing industry;
    • Develop and administer annual survey of targeted existing businesses resulting in annual reporting metrics on the health of existing industry;
    • Participate in or convene industry-focused associations/committees (e.g. Manufacturing Councils) to stay current on industry-wide needs/trends and share information about resources available to assist them.
  • Assist the Workforce program director in implementing NLEP programs such as North Louisiana MFG Month and FAME;
  • Represent NLEP on committees, Boards and associations as assigned;
  • Make public presentations on behalf of NLEP;
  • Participate in relevant professional development training;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Mastery of common office equipment and standard office and communication software, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Dropbox, and Zoom. Salesforce is the project and contact relationship management software use by the NLEP and will be used on a daily basis in this position. Training will be provided if needed;
  • Ability to author communication documents (letters, emails) with attention to detail and a highly professional tone;
  • Ability to work as part of a fast-paced team and manage the process of critical information gathering from teammates and outside sources;
  • Excellent project management skills to successfully prioritize, manage and complete multiple projects;
  • Candidate must be self-driven and able to complete tasks under tight deadlines;
  • Ability to stay current on changes, trends and new technologies impacting core job functions;
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn core principles of economic development and how they are applied within the NLEP program of work;
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills;
  • Market research and analysis skills;
  • Strong verbal communications skills, with the ability to effectively communicate information to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of NLEP stakeholders in a highly professional manner;
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality requirements of projects and other organizational matters;
  • Willingness to attend professional development training;
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle to and from work locations, meetings and events;
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to attend meetings/training/events.

Experience/Education Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Public Relations or a related field;
  • 2-5 years’ experience in a business, economic development, or real estate field preferred;
  • Valid driver’s license.

Supervision

  • Directly reports to NLEP President and may receive additional functional oversight from program managers when working on program-specific initiatives or events;
  • No supervisory responsibility.

Working Conditions

  • Job requires ability to excel in a fast-paced environment of multiple stakeholder interactions, projects and unexpected challenges/opportunities that require prompt action;
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment with low to moderate noise levels, though may be asked to work occasionally at off-site locations and events;
  • Occasional travel throughout region, state, and nation.  Possible occasional international travel.

Job Location

This position will be based in the NLEP office in Shreveport, though there will be travel throughout the NLEP footprint as needed and occasionally outside the region or state.
